- Abstract
Introduction. The cervical and uterine neoplasms involve standardized treatments, decided by a multidisciplinary team, according to disease staging. Performed whenever possible, surgeries involve, in the first place, the dissection of the obturator fossa, common iliac and interaortocaval lymph nodes. The postoperative (pT) histopathological (HP) examination may indicate tumor aggressivity through the presence or absence of neoplastic cells on the surgical specimen and in the obturator lymph nodes. Materials and method. Our clinic has recorded 123 patients (2019-2020), subjected to surgery for cervical and uterine neoplasms, and their obturator lymph nodes HP exams were correlated with the stage of the disease. Results. 7.31% of the patients had tumor cells in the obturator lymph nodes. Conclusions. The tumor cells present in the obturator lymph nodes are correlated with advanced disease stages and an aggressive histopathologic type.
