- Title
American Unions and Their Wealth.
- Authors
Troy, Leo
- Abstract
How rich are American unions and which possess the greatest wealth? What investment policies do they pursue? What is their income and its principal sources? How much do unions spend and for what purposes? Until recently, little was known about these and other financial characteristics of unions, but now a computer-assisted analysis of union financial reports filed with the U.S. Department of Labor, together with data on leading unions in the public sector added by the author, enable us to answer these questions and to provide a framework for assessing important issues affecting industrial relations and union administration. This paper, however, is limited to a brief review and assessment of unions' wealth, investment policies, and the adequacy of unions' finances to meet regular activities.
