- Abstract
Little is known about the differential treatment effects by client gender relative to specific or standardized family therapy interventions. The purpose of this study is to examine session two of the problem- and solution-focused approaches and evaluate whether there is a difference in female and male client perception of session two outcome, and client gender between two treatment approaches in single-session process. The process of problem identification through goal specification is evaluated using multivariate analysis of three self-report measures. Findings indicate an overall significant difference between the female and male clients at the end of session two related to: outcome expectancy; session positivity; outcome optimism; and self-efficacy. Additional findings indicate no significant differences between client gender by treatment approach for any of the dependent variables: personal attachment; goal clarification; outcome optimism; self-efficacy; perceived progress; session depth; session smoothness; session arousal; outcome expectancy; and session positivity.
