- Abstract
Studies on the professional vision competence have shown the potential of the use of video in supporting the skills of observation, analysis, and reflection on teaching practices by teachers. This work claims that teachers who have acquired this competence are better able to handle critical situations in the classroom and to rely on their own conceptual knowledge to reflect about actions to be programmed and sometimes even to anticipate or predict their effects. These findings justify the introduction of actions to support professional vision even during the induction training in Italy. Starting from the 2015/2016 edition of newly qualified teachers path an "observation protocol" has been developed, thus identifying a space for the experimentation and analysis of its use within peer-to-peer. The strength of such an initiative was the subject of an investigation attended by 404 new teachers from different types of schools. The analysis of the obtained data may help researchers understand the use, the perceived benefits, and the key functions that the new recruits give to the video analysis of teaching practice, as well as the impact on their professionalization.
