- Abstract
Leprosy INTRODUCTION: Hight rates of Human Papillomavirus infection in women (HPV) are estimated worldwild and may be at increased for cervical cancer cases. The inoculation of the virus occurs via microtrauma of the epithelium of the genital mucosa, usually during sexual intercourse with infected partners. During viral manifestation occurs the maturation and latent cell growth and may evolve as a subclinical or clinical lesion in the individual. AIMS: To analyze HPV in women with normal cytopathological results. METHODS: Survey on systematic reviews of articles published between 1993 and 2016 on HPV in five data sources: Medline, Lilacs, Scielo, Google Scholar and HPV Guides. RESULTS: Cytology techniques result in HPV prevalence classifications and estimates, but infections have increased. CONCLUSIONS: Infection, remission, reinfection, natural immunity, cross-protection and means of action of the virus should be further investigated in Brazil and Latin American countries, acting as a more effective control of HPV infection.
