- Abstract
Development of the industry, increase in population, rising the number of woman in business life, rapid development of food service efficiency have caused a dramatic development of catering industry or convenience food sector in Turkey. Current data shows that 27,5% of the Turkish population consume convenience foods produced by the catering industry. According to the related legislation, food enginers are employed in this sector as mandotary personnel. The aim of this research is to determine the challenges of the food engineers employed in the catering industry and to offer suggestions for the problems they face during their employment. In the present study, a total of 728 valid questionnaires were obtained, and the findings indicated that 76,10% of participants were unsatisfied from the conditions of the sector. Results also indicated that unlicensed production, unfair competition, under- or missing payment and inability to reflect their potentials in their working environment were found to be other problems that participants stated.
