- Abstract
The article discusses the history of the Dutch museum in Leiden, the Netherlands, the Museum Boerhaave, which specializes in the history of science. It focuses on the history of the museum's first major collection of scientific instruments, known as the Fysisch Kabinet. This collection is said to come from a professor of philosophy at the University of Leiden, Buchard de Volder. The evolution of the Museum Boerhaave from this collection and its association with Dutch national heritage are then addressed, although the collection is also said to have been housed at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
