- Title
La possibilità di dire "io": un confronto tra Christa Wolf ed Elena Ferrante.
- Authors
Faienza, Lucia
- Abstract
The aim of this study is to individuate a "lineage" of themes that characterize Elena Ferrante's novels and Christa Wolf's writing. Although the two authors have different culture and personal history, they both develop the possibility to put the female characters at the center of the narrative world, and of the language. The hypothesis advanced by Stefania Lucamante and reworked by Rebecca Falkoff, about the hidden existence in Ferrante's novels of themes that belong to Wolf, will be developed from some features shared by the two authors, that we can observe in: the role of woman and mother in a society created by men; the subversion regarding the research of a self-determinated and protagonist female identity; the dialectic, in Ferrante's language, between Italian and dialect, expression of «an irreducible otherness» (De Rogatis), and the male "language-fortress" of Wolf's novels, where the female characters try to find a «word that hardly opens the way in the mankind language» (Raja).
