- Abstract
Borealis, an Austrian company, achieved its highest net profit in its history of 2.1 billion euros in 2022. The revenue was also higher than in previous years. Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) from the United Arab Emirates acquired 25 percent of the company, which was previously owned by the state-owned company Mubadala. Borealis divides its business into three segments: polyolefins, base chemicals, and a segment with plant nutrients, melamine, and technical nitrogen products. The company plans to sell the last segment. The sales of polyolefins and fertilizers decreased in 2022, while melamine sales declined. Investments in fixed assets also decreased. Despite the challenges in the industry, Borealis intends to expand globally and drive the transformation towards a circular economy.
