- Abstract
A case study published in the Clinical & Experimental Dermatology journal highlights the emergence of terbinafine-resistant Trichophyton indotineae, a novel dermatophyte species, causing extensive dermatophytosis in a traveler returning to London, UK. The patient, a 26-year-old White man, presented with widespread, pruritic plaques on various body sites after traveling to Central and South America. Despite multiple treatments, including terbinafine, the infection persisted until it was successfully treated with itraconazole. The study emphasizes the need for clinicians to consider T. indotineae in cases of tinea corporis with widespread plaques and highlights the importance of mycological investigation and accurate diagnostic testing for effective management of this emerging drug-resistant dermatophytosis.
