- Abstract
Technological changes play a decisive role in the development of industry and society. The implementation of a new technology involves a great effort by members of an organisation. Technological changes are not possible without changes in the social system. According to researchers, the fundamental causes of change- oriented activity problems are not financial or technical, but psychological and organisational factors, which pose a threat to people’s material and spiritual well-being. So the employee’s behaviour in the process of change is determined by the general characteristics of the organisation (the ability to plan changes, informing employees about them properly, etc), and the individual psychological characteristics of the employee, especially certain personality traits. The main purpose of this article is to analyse the resistance of employees to technological changes for organisational and personal reasons. Based on the data collected and analysed in a qualitative study (interviews with managers of six public passenger transport organisations), it was found that the main reasons for resistance to change depend on the personality, and the most important impulses for resistance are anxiety and fear. The importance of age and education in this effect is emphasised. All the responding managers confirmed that, in their opinion, the reasons for organisational resistance to change are not the most important. According to the managers, if employees are provided with basic work conditions, and there is no fear of being fired, minor changes in work organisation do not induce employee resistance to technological changes. In order to reduce the probability of employee resistance to technological change, it is necessary to focus on the employees in order to find out the cause of their anxiety.
