- Abstract
This article attempts to highlight the link between painting and psychotherapy, to examine how they can walk hand in hand. It presents important aspects of the individual periods of therapy (the period before therapy, the period of association with the therapist, symbiosis, separation) through personal experience, where examples and comments on paintings are shown, as well as through the interlacing of data from the literature. It also shows how the use of paintings as an instrument can be useful to the therapist in terms of assessing the condition and dynamics of the therapeutic process. Paintings can help the client/patient as an element of recognizing thoughts and feelings, and can be the starting point for discussing the symbolism of individual painted elements and for further thinking about his/her unconscious, which frequently emerges in paintings. The painting process often reflects the therapeutic process.
