Rib fractures in horses.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article discusses rib fractures in horses and their association with hindlimb lameness. It highlights a case report that suggests caudal rib fractures can cause hindlimb lameness and that diagnostic analgesia of a rib fracture can alleviate the lameness. Retrospective studies have reported that rib fractures in horses are often associated with poor performance rather than lameness. The article also discusses imaging techniques such as nuclear scintigraphy and ultrasonography for diagnosing rib fractures in horses. Conservative management is the most common approach, but surgical intervention may be necessary in some cases. The article concludes by mentioning the use of peri-regional analgesia for rib fractures in horses and the importance of considering rib fractures as a differential diagnosis for poor performance and lameness in horses.
