- Abstract
This article, published in Current Zoology, discusses infanticide in golden snub-nosed monkeys. The study reports two cases of infanticide by a dominant male who had taken over a one-male unit (OMU) of monkeys in China. The researchers used behavior and genetic analyses to test the sexual selection hypotheses. The study found that the infanticide events occurred after the infants had become independent and that the females in the OMU showed agonistic behavior towards the male. The findings provide evidence for understanding the sexual selection hypothesis associated with animal infanticide.
