- Abstract
The place that France occupies in the historiographic production from the nineteenth century onwards is well known and recognized. From the École Méthodique to the Annales Revolution, and its developments until the 1980s, French production was a reference for historical studies in various countries and marked historiographical discourse in contemporary times. Pierre Vilar represents a synthesis of the metamorphoses of twentieth century French historiography: heir to the methodological achievements of the École Méthodique regarding absolute fidelity to empirical sources, his greatest inspiration was the Marxian theory of History; moreover, as a participant in the construction of the Annales group, he practiced in an integral way the École's proposals for historical knowledge. This study intends to show the parallelism between the construction of Vilarian historiography and the movements of French historiography in the Post-Second World War period.
