The article presents a case study of the U.S. mediation exercise in negotiations concerning the Angola-Namibia conflict during 1981-1988, and discusses the implications of partiality in mediation theory. It mentions the impact of a mediator's partiality on the acceptability of the mediator to the parties, and mediator's effectiveness in performing functions. It discusses the Angola/Namibia negotiations during the administration of U.S. President Ronald Reagan, and partialities of the U.S.
