The article expresses concerns over the impact of innovations in hockey gear on players. It highlights the Peltzman effect which theorized that players are less cautious about their own safety and of others because of the protection given by hockey gear. Also discussed are the observation that helmets are not designed to protect players against concussion and the role of coaches in reducing the number of injuries.
