- Abstract
The present study by Julia Crispin examines the visualization of political claims in Lancaster-France between 1422 and the end of the war in 1453. It analyzes how artworks were used to make the Lancaster kings' claim to the French throne visible. The study focuses on the art patronage of high-ranking actors and their self-presentation, as well as the political use of art and visual means. The study shows that the English adapted French motifs and traditions and combined them with English images to achieve their political goals. The work offers a broad thematic approach and a wealth of previously overlooked source material, especially in the manuscript catalog.
