- Abstract
The article identifies the characteristics of Moses Maimonides' career that have made him the Jewish medical icon of all time. Key attributes which are of relevance to contemporary physicians are also examined to understand the emergence of Maimonides as an exemplary Jewish polymath, rabbi, philosopher and scholar. The article also examines the movement of Jews into the medical profession, with an emphasis on how such physicians have followed the example of the qualities of Maimonides as a clinician.
