- Abstract
The article focuses on the safety of American Indian and Alaska Native (Al/AN) families and children who are exposed to domestic violence in Indian country. Topics discussed include impact of violence in Al/AN youth such as poor physical and mental health, and over-representation in the juvenile justice system; role of tribal governments in acknowledging tribal problems related to citizens safety and tribal sovereignty; and inconvenience of tribal criminal courts in proving justice.
