The article proposes a statutory framework that balances the legitimate interest of the government in protecting classified information and the public benefit resulting from the disclosure in the U.S. Topics discussed include the development of the Espionage Act and its increasing use by the government to prosecute journalistic sources and journalists, overview of the indictment of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, and legal recommendations to protect press freedom.
