- Abstract
In this paper, the lightning performance of the 150 kV transmission line in West Sumatra, Indonesia, is studied in details, showing that the lightning trip-out rate depends on the tower-footing resistance and the length of an arcing horn gap. The observed trip-out rate higher than 20 trip-outs/100 km-year is in good agreement with the results of the simulation by the IEEE FLASH program by using the so-called impulse resistance. The dependency of the trip-out rate on the arm location fairly well agrees with the rate estimated by the IEEE method too.
