- Authors
LACHTER, HARTLEY
- Abstract
The article discusses 13th century Kabbalah. The author attempts to present a contextualization of Kabbalah, and argues that kabbalistic texts were produced at an unprecedented rate in the late 13th century in Castile. The author argues that such texts made a permanent impression upon Judaism and Western intellectual history. The article also examines the political purposes, esoteric knowledge, and Jewish individualism and identity related to 13th century Kabbalah.
