- Title
Germ cell tumors.
- Abstract
The article states that the association of AFP with "teratocarcinomas' of ovar" and testis was simultaneously and independently demonstrated. It is now well established that AFP is a biological marker of cells responsible both for its synthesis in early embryogenesis and for certain gonadal and extragonadal germ cell tumors. Of decisive importance for the development of a rational basis for the clinical application and further elucidation of the problem are the cellular source of AFP in ontogenesis, the cellular source in malignancy as dependent on an exact tumor histogenesis, and the embryological basis of the neosynthesis of AFP in germ cell tumors.
