- Abstract
This study aims to investigate the representations of a «good teacher» by students who study Pedagogy. This analysis was motivated by the transformations that have been observed in pedagogical practice, due to the educational reforms that started in the 1990s in Brazil. The multiple tasks associated with the teacher’s training surpass the context of the classroom and lead us to wonder about what a «good teacher» is like nowadays. The research involved undergraduate students of Pedagogy. These students have pointed out the following aspects as to the representation of «good teacher»: first, he/she is someone who knows not only the subject he/she is teaching very well, but also the methodology required to teach it; second, the teacher presents attitudes or behaviors towards his/her profession and his/her students that correspond to the expectations; finally, the teacher shows social commitment, which is still a peripheral element.
