- Abstract
The article discusses the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), examining the agency's effectiveness and examining its nonproliferation activities. The article provides an overview of the IAEA and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), examining the agency's investigations into noncompliance in countries such as Libya, North Korea, Syria, and Iran as well as its reaction to the disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant in Japan. The author argues that the IAEA is a valuable institution and presents ways to strengthen its authority with regards to nuclear safety and nonproliferation.
