- Abstract
The article provides information on the traditional craft industries in Japan. In 1983, craftwork output reached ¥540.6 billion, while in 2005, it dropped to some ¥180 billion, according to a survey by the Association for the Promotion of Traditional Craft Industries. It examines the factors that contributed to the decline in the craftwork sector. A system has been established by the Law for the Promotion of Traditional Craft Industries, the Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry to support traditional craft industries.
