- Abstract
The article focuses on using the formative assessment probe in uncovering ideas in physical science. It is intended to determine whether students recognize that units of distance traveled should be measured from the starting point to the ending point. Responses from students show common error patterns that refer to the systematic use of inaccurate procedures. It was found that their responses indicate the need for explicit teaching in both science and mathematics.
