- Abstract
This article, titled "An Unexpected Giant Uterine Fibroid Mimic: Post-uterine Artery Embolization Diagnosis of Leiomyosarcoma," presents a case study of a 36-year-old woman who presented with symptoms of menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea, pelvic pain, and compression related symptoms. The patient had a history of benign leiomyomata and an enlarged uterus with a large interstitial fibroid was detected through ultrasound and MRI. The patient underwent bilateral selective UAE, but experienced persistent symptoms and an increase in size and cystic degeneration on CT. Hysterectomy was performed and histopathological examination revealed leiomyosarcoma. The article emphasizes the importance of considering uterine leiomyosarcoma as a possible diagnosis in women with rapidly enlarging fibroids and persistent symptoms post-UAE, regardless of their demographics.
