- Abstract
The article talks about the wages and hours of labor in sawmills in the U.S. in 1923. It presents a table which show the average full-time hours per week, earnings per hour and full-time earnings per week in the lumber manufacturing industry, from 1907 to 1923. Laborers and head sawyers operating band saws are given prominence in this article due to the fact that one group represents a class of the highest skilled and highest paid workmen in the industry. The state of Oregon has the highest hourly earnings, with an average weekly earnings of U.S.$55.39.
