The article discusses patient anticoagulation monitoring and measurement practices in the U.S. as of August 2018. Topics covered include the expansion of venous thromboembolism (VTE) therapeutic alternatives for patients, the benefits and limitations of direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC), and clinical laboratories' possible challenges in implementing specific DOAC measurement assays. Also noted is the chromogenic anti-Xa assay's versatility in anticoagulation monitoring and measurement.
