- Abstract
The article discusses research being done on the molecular components of a neural adaptation that might underlie drug craving in addicts. It references a study by K. Brebner et al published in a 2005 issue of "Science." Repeated exposure to drugs of abuse affects the strength of synaptic transmission in the esocorticolimbic regions of the brain. The study used the long-term depression of excitatory neurotransmission to evaluate the drug-induced behavioral sensitization of motor activity.
