- Abstract
The section in the wandering river reach of the Yellow River is wide and shallow and its water flow is scattered. The widest section for this river reach can be tens of kilometers and the swing range of the main channel can be several kilometers. Because of the limitation of many uncontrollable factors, it is possible to swing main channel from the designed range of main bridge to that of approach bridge after construction. Once it happens, there will be structural risks to the approach bridge in the Yellow River. In order to avoid the lack of vertical bearing capacity for the pile foundation of approach bridge under this condition, the estimation method for the main bridge pile length is uniformly applied to some or all of the approach bridge pile length conventionally. This method can improve the vertical bearing capacity of the pile foundation and meet the structural safety under extreme working conditions. However, the method also can lead to higher construction cost, higher construction risk and longer construction period. In this paper, new technology and new method had been applied to improve the vertical bearing capacity of the pile foundation, with post-grouting technology in the pile bottom and sides. Relative lower costs were used to reduce the risk under extremely low probability conditions. After the comparison of the project under construction, there are obvious advantages in project cost, construction risk and construction period. It will have certain reference significance for the design of the Yellow River approach bridge in the future.
