- Title
TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND ICT: Sudan.
- Abstract
The article discusses the telecommunications and ICT situation in Sudan. It highlights a recent incident where the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) raided the main switches of three communications companies in Khartoum and directed engineers to cut off all communications and internet services throughout the country. The RSF claimed that the Sudanese Armed Forces had issued instructions to cut off communications in Darfur, but this was denied by the telecommunications sector. As a result of unreliable connections, there has been a surge in the use of satellite receivers in Sudan. The article also mentions cyber-attacks by Anonymous Sudan on telcos in Uganda and Djibouti. Additionally, it briefly mentions investments in infrastructure in Benin by MTN Group and a subsea cable system connecting Egypt and Jordan.
