- Abstract
In the context of the revision of the Red List of vascular plants in Geneva district, the Conservatory and Botanical Garden of Geneva set about gathering existing floristic data for the district. This data is necessary for the application of IUCN criteria in order to evaluate taxa threat assessment. The Catalogue dynamique de la flore de Genève written by Claude Weber (1966) is a major work of Geneva botanical history. The transcription of these floral observations into geographically referenced data will allow them to be included in the Red List of threat assessment to the vascular species of the district under their evolution over time. Following a cross reference study between localities of that period and those of today, along with an updating of the taxonomy, this information has been integrated into a data base. Their projection within a geographical information system results in a layer of points of which each occurrence corresponds to the observation of a taxon within a precise locality for any given year. The layer gives the updated taxon name (Index synonymique de la Flore de Suisse, Aeschimann et Heitz, 2005), geographical coordinates, point accuracy, the date of the observation and whether or not the taxon was present. Additional information given by the author, such as the environment in which the taxon occurs or their indigenate, are also available. An overall picture of the flora of that period is thus obtained allowing a comparison with the present flora.
