- Abstract
One of the prevailing positions in organizational psychology is that organizations can be described and differentiated in terms of their culture. Further, it is held that individuals have a reciprocal relationship with that culture, which affects their behavior and performance. The objective of this research was to capture individual perceptions of the culture of the work environment, and then construct an inventory that could subsequently be used in organization analysis and evaluation to systematically assess the outcomes of organization development activities and guide various human resource management activities. A series of developmental studies was conducted to construct, standardize, and evaluate the inventory. The results show a stable dimensional structure across situations, as well as sensitivity to the effects of targeted OD intervention. The implications for staffing and human resource development planning are discussed.
