- Abstract
This document is an editorial published in the journal Frontiers in Cellular & Infection Microbiology. It discusses recent advancements in the identification and characterization of novel antigens of malarial parasites, specifically Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium falciparum, and Plasmodium knowlesi. The editorial highlights several original articles that explore different aspects of malarial parasites, including the functional characterization of a glucose transporter in P. vivax, the association between naturally acquired antibodies and reduced transmission of P. vivax gametocytes, malaria exposure levels among indigenous communities in Malaysia, cross-reactivity of antibodies to VAR2CSA, and the role of the protein RON3 in erythrocyte invasion and parasite proliferation in P. falciparum. These findings contribute to our understanding of malarial biology and have implications for vaccine development and intervention strategies.
