- Abstract
This section presents news briefs related to technology of February 2005. At the annual meeting of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, four prominent medical physicists presented information from their clinical and research experience with new technologies for image-guided radiation therapy and the use of medical linear accelerators to deliver stereotactic radiosurgery. Meanwhile, Hanger Prosthetics & Orthotics has developed the Insignia motion-tracking laser scanner and three-dimensional software. Insignia uses the laser scan to build up an accurate three-dimensional replica that is captured within seconds. After the scan, the image is modified as necessary by Hanger software and is then sent to Hanger's Central Fabrication Network where a final model is carved or constructed, for patient fitting. On a different note, hotel chain Wyndham International has deployed intelligent agent technology from Voxify to offer a premium level of customer service to its guests. The Automated Agents use speech automation in Wyndham's call center, providing the conversational skills to handle advanced customer service calls. They greet guests, help locate hotels, book reservations, or update guests' loyalty programme information.
