- Abstract
The rate of adult women has increased in the Spanish population. Understanding the characteristics and the effects of physical exercise in this type of population is important in order to develop disabilities and independence maintenance prevention plans in an increasingly longevity society. The objective of the present intervention is to test the effects of a low intensity power training program (<40% RM) in older than 65 years and healthy females population. The initial hypothesis advocates that this training will improve the functional capacity and strength of the analyzed subjects. For that, it was performed an intervention in which the intensity of maximum repetition changed from 20% to 40% throughout 12 sessions divided in 6 weeks. The observed variables were body composition, functional capacity through different test and maximum strength by means of an estimation of an indirect 1RM. The obtained results showed a significant improvement in the body composition as a result of a decrease in fatty issue and an improvement in the functional capacity and strength in the lower limb.
