- Abstract
The knowledge about plant responses to light are of great importance for the production of seedlings, but these data are not always available for many species. The aim of this study was to evaluate the emergence and seedling growth of 'Cleopatra' mandarin (Citrus reshni Hort. ex Tan) under different shading levels. The shading levels were: 0% (full sun), 30%, 50% and 80% of shade. The seeds were planted in number of 100, for each level of shading, in plastic tubes containing Plantmax® Florestal substrat, with four replications of 25 seeds. The traits analyzed were: the emergence velocity index (IVE), the percentage of emergency (PER), height (ALT), the number of leaves (NF), leaf area (AF), the dry shoot and root biomass (MSPA e MSR) and the content of chlorophyll a, b and total (CLO A, CLO B, CLO T) in the leaves. The shading influence on emergence and early seedling growth of 'Cleopatra'. The shading of 50% provides greater seedling emergence and development of 'Cleopatra'.
