- Abstract
The book "Isidor. A Jewish Life" by Shelly Kupferberg is about the journalist's search for the traces of her great-granduncle Isidor. She only finds a cutlery box lined with red velvet containing a silver set as a material inheritance. Isidor grew up in a Galician shtetl and moved to Vienna in 1908, where he pursued a career in the leather wholesale business. After Austria's annexation to Nazi Germany, he was arrested by the Gestapo and lost his fortune. He died in Vienna in 1938. The book also tells the story of Isidor's family and sheds light on the fate of a Jewish family in the 20th century.
