- Abstract
The reality of the Brazilian prison system is related to a degrading structure. In Ceará, more than 50% of detainees commit crimes again and are arrested again, more than 78% of the prisoners do not study and more than 90% do not participate in professional courses within the prison system, reflecting the failures of this system that has the purpose of resocialization. At the end of the execution of the sentence or during the progression of the regime, the incarcerated returns to society and work is an alternative of re-socialization sought by the individual himself. This research aimed to understand the relationship between work and the social reintegration of assisted prisoners in the prison system of Ceará. For this, it was based on the qualitative approach and the semi-structured interview technique. For the analysis of collected data the content analysis was chosen that resulted in the following themes: Influence of the work to the exit of the world of the crime; Challenges and difficulties that the assistants face in the search of jobs; The current work as a passenger and Expectations of a positive future with the achievement of better conditions. It was concluded that the work for the assistants of the penitentiary system of Ceará is something positive, however, in order to re-enter the labor market, the assistants face a series of challenges that hinder the obtaining of formal jobs.
