- Title
Hip-Hop's Global Soundscape: Boom Bap Babylon or Babylon's Boom Bap?
- Authors
El-Khairy, Omar
- Abstract
The article discusses the significance of hip-hop culture across the U.S. It notes that the successive generations of American hip-hop culture starts by examining its current place within the American culture, but just as importantly its growing population. It further stresses that hip-hop seems to be facing a novel crisis of identity. It has been primarily viewed as an African-American cultural expression in modern urban settings. Through that, it reveals that only a handful of studies have gone beyond the issue to examine the culture in other urban settings within the context of its transnational appeal and adoption of an itinerant culture.
