The article focuses on the early representations of large animals on the early modern stages. It highlights animal representations in plays including Thomas Dekker's Phaethon, Philip Henslowe's Diary and Thomas Heywood's Jupiter and Io. The architecture and external decoration of the structure described by Dekker is also discussed.
