- Abstract
This article analyzes the circumstances of the creation of the Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology, presenting, in a succinct way, the path taken by the federal institutions of professional education from the Schools of Apprentice Craftsmen to the creation of the Federal Institutes and their contextualization today, committed to human education for a dignified life. The study started from a bibliographical research and aimed to portray how the Federal Institutes were constituted at the national level, analyzing the conceptual and normative characteristics that help in the understanding of this new institutionality of professional education. The analysis shows that the creation of the Federal Institutes proved to be a modernization in the scope of Vocational and Technological Education and constituted an important space for the development of a curricular structure of contextualized professional education, conceiving it as a political, philosophical and pedagogical process of formation. omnilateral aspect of the human being, breaking with the concept of an instrumental, technicist and economistic education that serves the interests of the market. It is about forming not only the productive individual, but also the political being.
