- Abstract
The review discusses the book "Care trans_formieren. Eine ethnografische Studie zu trans und nicht-binärer Sorgearbeit" (Transforming Care: An Ethnographic Study on Trans and Non-Binary Care Work) by Francis Seeck. The book examines the practices of care and care activism among white trans and non-binary individuals in the German-speaking region. Seeck demonstrates that care in trans and non-binary spaces rarely fits into the binary framework of caregiver and care recipient. The author also highlights the precarious situation of trans care work, which is often associated with unpaid labor and the norms of urban, privileged milieus. However, the review criticizes Seeck for barely addressing racist dynamics and treating the concepts of trans and non-binary in a Eurocentric manner.
