The article attempts to show how the policy pursued towards Jews of Bessarabia and Bukovina was related to the wider aims of the Romanian government. The decision to cleanse the provinces of Jews was only indirectly related to the supposed disloyalty of the Jews of Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina in 1940.
