- Abstract
The article focuses on the letters composed by the late 11th century abbot of the Cistercian order Bernard of Clairvaux in France. Bernard had produced many letters sent to various persons that were intended for teaching and for expressing his theological views. Common to his time, most of the letters were written by several secretaries including Nicholas of Montiéramey who was behind the letter to Cluny's abbot Peter the Venerable.
