- Title
Wim Wenders and The State of Things.
- Authors
Mitchell, Tony
- Abstract
The article explores the central idea in Wim Wenders' film "The State of Things." It first notes how the film was conceptualized by Wenders as well as on how its spontaneous film-within-a-film aspect was developed. It then discusses the graphical illustration of the film's course of time by pointing out how the actors pass their time not in a setting of physical movement but in a static situation. In conclusion, the author remarks on the similarity of the film to a fictional film essay of self-assessment that offers a European perspective of cinema and how it differs from American cinema.
