- Title
Introductory Note to Donald Roy's Article on Cooperation and Conflict in the Factory.
- Authors
Becker, Howard
- Abstract
The article introduces Donald Roy's article on cooperation and conflict in factory. The article was three times longer than the usual 1950 journal article. This article should be read in conjunction with the three that were published in the "American Journal of Sociology" and the "American Sociological Review." Roy was strongly influenced by the course in field methods he had taken with Everett C. Hughes, he kept a careful and detailed diary of his experiences, and these formed the basis of his dissertation, which he defended in 1952. This article was part of that dissertation. It was not published, unlike the other first three which were published in the "American Journal of Sociology" and the "American Sociological Review,"
